Today shall be a short post. Short but informative… I hope. I have been feeling a little blue this week. I don’t know if it’s the cold or the lack of sugar in my diet or what but ho hum, life goes on. Today I wanted to beat the blues so I thought it’s time to give myself some bright, happy nail art.
I started with my usual basecoat of Duri and two coats of Barry M’s Yellow 134. This polish is a bit streaky so you might need three coats but it’s a beautiful yellow that’s not neon or overly lurid so it’s fairly easy to wear.
After the polish has dried, get some scotch tape and with it still attached to the roll cut into the tape making uneven triangular slivers. Use small, sharp scissors and make sure to clean the tape shards off the scissors between snips.
Place the tape onto the nail and press down firmly to form a seal.
Paint a layer of your chosen contrasting colour – I went for Barry M’s Indigo 312 (though probably should have gone for the Cobalt for a brighter result) – all over the nail and don’t worry about how much you get on the tape. On layer will be sufficient for full opacity.
Immediately after painting, peel the scotch tape off carefully but confidently from the opposite edge you painted – so you’re peeling down the nail.
Repeat on all your nails and clean up any messy edges with polish remover.
You may need to fill in some spaces, which can be done free hand if you’re confident enough.
For my right hand I mixed it up a little and painted the cuticle/half moon edge instead.
This is the first time I’ve tried this and though it’s not perfect it’s worked pretty well. This would look great with a sky blue and grass green or any other contrasting colours.
I think I prefer the cuticle edge better but I can’t stop looking at either. And I just realised they look a bit like the old school Wolverine…
Will you give it a go?
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone for all the support and for reading and following. I’ll be doing more recipes, gift suggestions and of course beauty, plus everything else in the future and I’m hoping to add more videos… yeah… that’s right.
