Recently I reviewed the Schwarzkorpf Professional’s Color Freeze shampoo and conditioner. I also mentioned that I had a couple more products from the range to review. Well, today is one of those days. I generally straighten my hair every time I wash it. I have a natural kink and it’s a bit frizzy, add a full fringe and it’s a recipe for disastrous hair days. But I’m no fool – well, not when it comes to this – and I always use a heat protecting product before attacking my hair with scorching ceramic plates. This is where the new Color Freeze Thermo-Protect Cream comes in.
Just like the shampoo and conditioner the packaging is pretty sleek. The solid white with cerise banner and blocky font makes it look clean, unisex and no nonsense. The tube is made of a really soft, thin plastic so it’s really easy to dispense the product.
Again, this product smells yummy. It doesn’t smell flowery or herbally but it has a very sweet smell that makes me swoon. It is a tad on the chemical side but to me it just smells fresh and clean. I think it smells like a silk scarf my mum used to have… maybe that’s why??
It’s quite a rich cream that spread really easily and doesn’t have any stickiness. You only need a tiny bit to cover your hair though and it is easy to overdo it so be really careful when you’re applying.
I found that the best way to apply was to towel dry your hair until it stops dripping, apply a very small amount of product (I used about a 20p sized dollop to cover my thickish hair that falls below my shoulders) through the hair by spreading the cream all over your hands and fingers and working it through from your scalp to the tips and massaging it into the hair. Finally take a comb or a thick bristled brush and brush your hair through to ensure even cover. Then blow dry and straighten as normal.
The reason I’ve given such detailed application tips is because this product does work and it does make your hair shiny and helps it stay smooth but if you use too much your hair will feel heavy and look greasy. This is what happened to me the first few times I used it and I was really not impressed but I thought I’d keep trying and I finally worked out the best way to use it. Once I had my hair was flexible but easy to style, light and felt youthful. Along with the shampoo and conditioner it made my colour stand out more and even now with my roots growing in, my hair is still a fiery orange.
It’s a product I really like as it gives my hair a lot of control and makes it really shiny without drying it out but I wouldn’t use it every day. I think on freshly coloured hair and if I want my hair to look super sleek and shiny it’ll be a dream and I think that’s what I’m going to save it for.
If you have dry hair this may be a dream product for you as it will help rebuild your hair, retain your hair colour and protect it from heat damage – along with giving it a little bit of moisture/oil it may require – but if like me you like to wash your hair every three days or so make sure you don’t over use it.
