Over the past few months I have had to come to terms with the fact that I’m getting older. I’m only in my late twenties but years of partying, drinking, smoking and a lack of skin care routine has left my skin a little bit worse for wear. Over the past few years (and by that I mean the past six) I have given up the partying, the drinking and the smoking but it’s taken a while to get my skin care routine in order. I was a bit of a cocky cow and thought that I had naturally good skin and that I didn’t have to care for it… not yet at least. But unfortunately, the day came when I realised that my pores were enlarged, the skin was dry, it had lost that youthful fulness and it was just generally looking a bit drab. So I decided to take action. I decided it was time to get some intense moisturisation going and get my anti-ageing routine on. After having such success with the Fabulips set, I decided to try Youth As We Know It night cream from Bliss.
The first thing I want to mention is the packaging. Part of the reason I haven’t taken the anti-ageing plunge is because a lot of the products look like they’re meant for middle aged women. I’m just about getting to grips with the fact that I’m not going to be asked for my ID when buying a bottle of wine, I don’t want to start thinking of myself as an old lady yet. The Youth As We Know It packaging does not fall into this category at all. The box it comes in is clean, youthful and even a little funky with its light blue gradient and circular pattern. The tub of cream is also very youthful in a very pretty aqua blue with the same circular pattern and bold fonts. It’s not to say that older people can’t use this product by any means, just that it’s more accessible for a younger audience than some of the Clarins, Elemis and other offerings out there.
The cream itself is very dense and needs a bit more time to massage and sink into the skin but it’s surprisingly lightweight. When comparing the texture to absorption time, it’s actually pretty amazing. As it’s a night cream you expect it to be a little heavier so it’s not a problem, the only thing I would say is be careful not to overdo it and keep an eye on how much you apply as it’s easy to end up with little rolls of product on your skin. It’s not a big problem but just something you have to get used to.
For the past month I have been washing my face and applying this every night and I am incredibly happy with the results. Though I don’t have wrinkles (bar a few faint lines around my eyes and I’ve not really been using this around the eyes as you will see later in the week), my skin certainly needed a boost. This was that boost.
I gave myself a month with this cream so that I can really get to grips with it. However, I didn’t need a month to see the benefits. After the first few applications it was clear that this is the sort of cream my skin was craving. After a couple of weeks I almost felt confident enough to swap from foundation to tinted moisturiser. After four weeks, I’m not actually wearing makeup as often as usual because my skin feels really good.
The first thing I noticed was the fact that my skin was plumper. Prior to using it, my skin was a bit drab and a bit deflated but this made it fresher, more awake and it really did have a youthful fulness to it again. It was just brighter, healthier and it actually felt like it was breathing. I could feel the new suppleness when applying products and even just poking my face.
After a couple of weeks I noticed that my pores had started to shrink. I’m not saying that my pores have disappeared but they have definitely become less noticeable and I’m finding that I’m getting less outbreaks and products such as POREfessional are actually working. This was a massive breakthrough for me as it’s one of the things that makes me feel really self conscious.
I also noticed that the stubborn patch on my nose which is always dry and that makeup won’t stick too has disappeared. For the first time in my life, applying makeup has been ridiculously easy as my whole face is smoother, firmer and completely free of oily patches and dry patches.
The box says:
WARNING> Nightly use of this product may deliver the skin of your ‘dreams’ by hydrating and plumping, replenishing and soothing, retexturing and brightening, promoting collagen and elasticity, improving skin tone and visibly reducing the appearance of fine lines.
I can honestly say that I have experienced all of the above. This is the first time since I was about 17-years-old that I’ve felt completely confident in the way my skin looks. The colour is more even and brighter. The skin feels fuller and it does feel younger. And the most important thing, for me at least, is that it feels like it’s breathing properly.
I went into this trial with mixed feelings. I love Bliss and their products but I’m a bit of a sceptic when it comes to night creams and anti-ageing wonders. I am now a complete convert. This cream has made me look healthier and younger and the best thing of all, I feel amazing. The cream isn’t cheap at £65 but after a month’s usage I’ve barely made a dent in it and I imagine it will last me at least a year. It’s also just worth the money. I am astounded at how well this product has worked for me and I’m genuinely over the moon with it. With the upcoming wedding, this has definitely confirmed to me that anti-ageing is the way to go and has given me confidence that my skin will look good on the big day.
