I know that Chubbysticks have been around for ages but it took me a long time to take the plunge. I don’t know if it was because my brain classed them as one of two extremes: just another lip balm or too highly pigmented for them to use often. I took the plunge and bought one when the new colours came out (so about two months ago) and I haven’t looked back since.
I opted for the Voluptuous Violet – a seemingly deep, highly pigmented purple – and I was over the moon with the results. Despite the packaging or the intense colour held within the actual balm, the product is actually really sheer and just adds a hint of colour rather than a full blast of bold, look at me hue. It’s subtle enough to wear all day and the Voluptuous Violet certainly provides a noticeable enough tint so your lips don’t feel or look naked.
The texture is amazing. It is basically what it should be – a really high end lip balm. It’s not waxy, it’s not heavy and it’s not too greasy. Your lips feel instantly hydrated and they stay that way until the product wears off. You don’t need much to actually coat the lips and without eating, it does last a good 4 hours.
£16 may seem steep for what is virtually a coloured lip balm but I couldn’t be happier with mine. I use mine constantly (I literally sit at my desk and apply it when I’m thinking) and I haven’t even used up the external tip. The colour it provides is great for a subtle sheen that I find goes with any outfit.
One thing I haven’t mentioned is the actual packaging. The fact that it’s effectively a large marker pen means that it’s really easy to apply and you can be fairly accurate with very little effort.
I don’t know if I’d buy multiple but if there’s a colour you like to wear on a daily basis, then I highly recommend investing in one of these.
